My other blogs

Since I have two other blogs. One is Peter on Storage. The other is Peter on Life. Sometimes I wrote blog entries before this blog was created. So I'll link to my older blog entry here.

I've written an article about Custom Software Development, this article is good to read if you happen to start a custom software development project. The details about requirement gathering is another important subject. It could save frustration from both sides. Both parties - business owner and contractor (programmer) - should set the expectation of each requirements gathering meeting and make sure that meeting objectives are met. If no goals are being set, business owner may come to a requirement gathering meeting unprepared. They may or may not be able to elaborate all the details well.

CRM blog entry is coming up. I'm going to head to Chiangmai in 6 hours. Chiangmai is a province 800 km (500 miles) north of Bangkok. Be back in a couple of days.

Storage Service Web Application

I've just written about Storage service web application that we built. It's written in Java with Struts framework. I thought that I would write software-based topics here. But Storage service software is not just a software. It's a specialized software built to provide Storage service (store date, share data, content distribution) to mass market. So it's more toward my Storage blog.

Currently our total storage capacity is 30TB raw or 15TB usable. So we have more capacity than anyone in Southeast Asia. This web application can serve customers who only need 1GB to customers who need at least 500GB.

On another topic, I've just listened to Venturevoice: Jay Adelson of Digg talk. Jay encouraged everyone to start out like he did Equinix. It's not just a dream about ideas. Everything is about execution. Getting over your fear, and "just do it". He didn't only encourage listeners. He also elaborated his mistakes in Equinix : delegating too much too quickly and his inability to work with VC and his team to ensure that there was mutual interest to keep the company wanting to evolve and find new markets.

If you'd like to be independent, you could start thinking of things that you like to do in your free time. Then execute like there is no tomorrow.

I'm going to "just do it" now. (in this case, it's sleep). Next post is going to be about Customer Relationship Management.

Have a lovely weekend.

The beginning of Software

NoteOnSoftware is how I want to share my ideas on running an independent software company for 5 years. My first job was at Sun MicroSystems Inc in Menlo Park. It was during dot-com days much earlier than the burst. I enjoyed working along side the great team, great architects of the day. I will share my experience in a large development team at Sun and my experience running a micro ISV out here in Southeast Asia.
